Her Silence

Tuesday, 8 May 2018

She met him today.
There’s so much to say, yet she didn’t say a word.
She swallowed her word, it’s destroying her.
She tried to find the tip of the tangled ball of thoughts,
Tried to tame and untangle a stretch of it to resemble anything that made sense.

Then he made a skin contact.
He rubbed her back, just as he used to.
His kindness was killing her inside.
She felt her entire body is trembling.
She had this sudden feeling of fear.
Fear of hoping, fear of expecting more.
But at the same time, she was excited to finally meet him.
-o-
To him, she was a cheerful girl,
So her silence was like a shell game.
Truth is, her silence was to keep her thoughts from spilling out of her mouth.
“How unfriendly,” he said to her.
She replied him with an awkward smile and walked away.
The universe wasn’t making it easy for her.
She was waiting for her food when he sat right in front of her.
He stole her breath away from her.
She put her head down the table,
clenched her fists so hard,
hoping her hands would stop shaking.
-o-
He was talking, laughing, as if she’s the only one falling apart.
She was losing her mind.
She dug her nail deeper, to keep her sanity.
Then she thought,
Love is a serious mental illness.

Sometimes silence says everything,
Because no words can explain what’s going on in your mind.
